The United Community Chest of Cazenovia, Fenner and Nelson, is seeking donations during a year-end fundraiser from the community. Founded in 1957 by area civic leaders in an effort to raise funds for local charities, the Community Chest distributes money to numerous area organizations. The Community Chest is a volunteer organization, and its only expenses are printing and postage for an annual appeal mailing sent out in the fall, and insurance. Charities provide detailed information, which the board uses to evaluate funding requests and how to best distribute their resources. “We know that residents receive numerous solicitations from both these and other organizations throughout the year,” said Jill Ryan, treasurer of the United Community Chest. “We’d like to stress that even a small gift helps — together, all these small contributions can do great things. By writing just one check, you can help many organizations (without getting on their mailing lists!)” Over the past 5 years, the Community Chest has distributed an average of $45,000 annually. Its members would like to increase the amount that distributed this year, as many of the agencies are facing cuts in state funding. Contributions should be sent to United Community Chest of Cazenovia, Fenner and Nelson, P.O. Box 73, Cazenovia, N.Y. Organizations supported by the United Community Chest
