With three more convincing victories, the Skaneateles girls volleyball team surged into the holiday break with a perfect 8-0 mark. All this began with a Dec. 17 non-league match against Living Word Academy, where the Lakers took care of the Lions 25-14, 25-16, 25-18. Ryan Merle and Emily Wood each led the Skaneateles front line with eight kills, while Katherine Hill put together four kills and three aces and Alexa Campanile also got four kills. Gabby Eckles (10 assists) and Destin VanTyle (seven assists, three kills) shared back-line duties with Colleen Cargile, who had five assists. Two days later, the Lakers went to Jordan-Elbridge and kept it going with a 25-10, 25-14, 25-15 sweep of the Eagles. Hill led the front line with nine kills, while Wood backed up her five kills with six aces and Merle also earned five kills, plus three blocks. Campanile and Julianna Augustine each had three assists, while Eckles picked up 10 assists and Davis added four assists. This run culminated last Tuesday with a sweep of Phoenix, where all three games ended in 25-12 margins. Wood earned seven aces to go with her six kills and two assists. Merle had a team-best seven kills, plus four aces and three blocks, while Hill (five kills), Augustine (four kills) and Anna Goodell (three kills) contributed to the front line, too. Splitting back-line duties, Eckles had nine assists and VanTyle earned eight assists. Skaneateles would play Monday in the Canastota Laidlaw Tournament, eight days before the season resumes Jan. 5 against Westhill. Two nights after that, Skaneateles duels with Cazenovia, their first encounter since last year’s Section III Class B final.
