Indoor track and field teams from Chittenango, Canastota, Oneida and Vernon Verona Sherill all found their way to Colgate University for Friday night’s Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association meet. Chittenango had 21.5 points to get sixth place in the boys meet, while Oneida earned 20 points and Canastota got 18 points. Utica Proctor won with 64 points. Oneida won the 4×200 relay, with Mike Rabbitt, Zach Hall, Jeb Stewart and Patrick Tayntor finishing in a time of 3:49.03. The Indians also claimed third in the high jump as Mike Rabbitt, the individual champion, cleared 6 feet 3 inches. Tyler Burton and Dan Margo were third in the triple jump, going a combined 78 feet 5 inches. The Bears were second in the pole vault even though John Laplante won among individuals, clearing 10 feet 6 inches. Chittenango also got fifth in the high jump and triple jump. Aaron Walker gave Canastota the individual title in the mile, finishing in a time of 4:44.78 as the Raiders took third place overall. Not only that, but Walker, Frank Slaunwhite, Zach Szkolnick and John Iaconis teamed to win the 4×800 relay in 9:16.10. On the girls side, the Raiders and Red Devils tied for seventh place, with 14 points, while the Indians finished with 11.5 points and the Bears 10 points. Rome Free Academy won with 64 points. Canastota would win the 4×800 relay, where Allison Lasnicki, Elise Soper, Marisa Williams and Francesca Popple posted a time of 11:00.65, more than four seconds ahead of runner-up Cazenovia (11:04.98). Lasnicki also posted the fastest time in the mile of 5:14.48 as the Raiders took fourth overall. VVS saw Elaine Slaven and Kayla Fazekas combine to clear 8 feet 9 inches for second place in the high jump. Tela Prettyman and Melinda Stanton were fourth in the shot put. Oneida had Jordan Armstrong, Erica Vaccaro, Sara Rifendifer and Vivian Thurston claim third in the 4×200 relay in 2:03.37. By herself, Thurston tied for fifth in the pole vault, clearing 6 feet 6 inches, while the Indians also got fifth in the long jump and 55-mter hurdles. Chittenango’s quartet of Jordan Donnelly, Hillary Courtwright, Kaitlyn Alongi and Alissa Levens-Freeman took third in the 4×800 relay in 11:33.66. The Bears were fifth in the 4×400 relay in 4:58.61.
