Continuing to tear through the early portion of its schedule, the Canastota girls volleyball team easily handled both of its opponents. First, the Raiders went to Hamilton and put together a 25-21, 25-15, 25-22 sweep of the Emerald Knights. Though the first and third games proved close, Canastota was not in any serious danger. Jessica Patterelli piled up 22 assists, eight kills and 10 digs, while Denae Rinaldo finished with 16 kills and four digs. Hamilton had its own share of stars, including Tiffany Jones-Maxwell, who had 15 kills, and Brook Mecca, who had eight kills, five digs and three aces. Valaya Lalonde (14 assists) and Kaitlyn Askew (10 assists) both worked on the back line. Meanwhile, Morrisville-Eaton fell in four games to Waterville. The Indians won the first two games 25-22 and 25-14, and though the Warriors claimed the third game 25-14, Waterville held on to take the fourth game 25-21. Ashley Kincaid gave M-E 10 aces, nine kills and three digs, with Stephanie Davis adding 12 kills, four digs and three blocks. Lindsay Clark had 12 digs and 10 assists. On Friday night, Hamilton and M-E would meet each other, and the Emerald Knights got the best of the neighborhood rivalry, beating the Warriors in three games 25-13, 25-11, 25-15. Jones-Maxwell had 14 kills, aided by Sam Martin and her five aces, four kills and two blocks. Askew improved to 15 assists. Rachel Morris (six aces, three digs) and Sam Conklin (six digs) led M-E’s effort. Canastota’s non-league match with Oneida got snowed out on Wednesday, but the Raiders would resume its domination againstMount Markham Friday night, sweeping past the Mustangs 25-7, 25-21, 25-20. Patterelli put up 17 assists, adding nine digs, seven kills and six aces. Rinaldo had a team-best 10 kills, while Katelyn Rounds helped with five kills, three digs and two aces. The Raiders meet Waterville, Vernon Verona Sherrill and Sauquoit Valley this week.
