Already, the action for the Oneida and Vernon Verona Sherill girls volleyball teams in the Tri-Valley League has proven intense. The Indians handled last Tuesday night’s league opener against Clinton, taking just three games to sweep the Warriors 25-10, 25-13, 25-3. Not spending much time on the court, Oneida saw Rachael Kline earn nine kills, four blocks and two aces, while Paige Pendleton got six kills and four blocks. Shannon Dowling had 12 assists as Candra Connelly picked up three aces and three digs. As for VVS, it lost a close five-game decision to New Hartford. Losing the first game 25-20, the Red Devils stormed back to claim the second game 25-16 and third game 25-19. The Spartans claimed the fourth game 25-21, and though VVS came within inches of winning the match in the fifth and final game, New Hartford pulled it out, 25-23.
