For its busiest stretch of the regular season, the Cazenovia girls tennis team had three matches in four days, with the toughest one coming at the start. The Lakers did snag some points in last Monday’s battle with Christian Brothers Academy, but still to0k a 5-2 loss to the Brothers. Cazenovia earned a split of the doubles matches. Kelly Furlong teamed with Sarah Glass to beat Laura Bulman and Lauren Mastroeni 6-2, 6-1, while Renee Groetz and Morgan Cowherd had a 6-1, 6-1 win over Olivia Rotundo and Jenna Bartolotti. CBA won every other match in straight sets, though, the closest coming in third singles, where Alex Crawford could not snag a set in a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Colleen Cavanaugh. In Thursday’s match at Jordan-Elbridge, the Lakers went back to the win column, shutting out the Eagles 7-0. Lauren MacHose toppled Alicia Norfolk 6-1, 6-3, while Crawford beat Nicole Elking 6-1, 6-0 and Elizabeth Palmer took out Jessica Aldrich 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, Laura Gregg and Hannah Koennecke handled Sarah Loerzel and Kelly Smart 6-4, 6-1, with Furlong and Glass beating Sam Lewis and Jessica Aldrich 6-4, 6-3. Mary Reizun and Olivia Bowser blanked Kaitlyn Assman and Liz Jorolemon 6-0, 6-0, as Groetz and Cowherd put together a 6-0, 6-2 win over Kate Humphries and Taylor Sauginis. Cazenovia then made it two wins in as many days Friday by handling Bishop Grimes 7-0. MacHose survived a first-set tie-breaker to beat Nicole Delello 7-6 (7-4), 6-0, as Palmer and Crawford lost just one game between them. Koennecke and Gregg, by beating Carlie Benbenek and Gisella Barletta 6-2, 6-1, led a doubles sweep where none of the teams lost more than two games in any single set. With a 4-3 record (3-2 league), Cazenovia is supposed to have matches this week against Skaneateles, Manlius-Pebble Hill and Pulaski — at least if the rain stops.
