A long rest late in September did little to stop the Skaneateles boys soccer team’s forward momentum. Instead, when the Lakers returned to the field Saturday to face Manlius-Pebble Hill, it stayed unbeaten in the OHSL Liberty division, beating the Trojans 3-1. Skaneateles had struggled against top-flight competition in a tournament at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta on Sept. 19-20, and this was the first chance to get back on the field and show how much it learned. A.J. Richichi learned a lot. All he did was register a goal and two assists, playing a part in every Skaneateles scoring play as he fed passes to Kyle Baier and Jared Amory for crucial goals. Kelly Donigan assisted on Richichi’s tally. Jake Bird, despite a lot of pressure, stopped nine of the 10 shots he faced. On Thursday night (following a Tuesday game with Phoenix), Skaneateles will meet Marcellus again. Their first clash on Sept. 8 ended too early, a power outage at Marcellus causing the game to be halted at 1-1 midway through the second half. They still have not made it up.
