With two meets in a span of four days, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls swim team emerged with a split. In the first of these two meets, the Northstars went to Rome Free Academy and accumulated enough points to hold on and beat the Black Knights 100-99. Nicole Blidy won both the 50 freestyle (26.74 seconds) and 100 freestyle (58.13 seconds) after teaming with Marinda McIntyre, Kasey Simmons and Emily Altier to take first place in the 200 freestyle relay in 2:08.25. Regina LaRosa earned a pair of wins, too, taking both the 200 individual medley (2:27.62) and 100 butterfly (1:06.17), while Blidy was first in the 500 freestyle in 5:59.26. Lauren Festa swam the 100 backstroke in 1:11.71. On Thursday, the Northstars ran into New Hartford and did not prove as successful, falling to the Spartans 97-86. Blidy still won twice, claiming the 50 freestyle (27.05 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:03.28), with Stacey DeCarr emerging to win the diving event as she earned 206.55 points. LaRosa won the 200 freestyle in 2:03.66. Meanwhile, Liverpool broke its early-season skid on Thursday night at its home pool by beating the Nottingham Bulldogs 108-73. Renee Stromski and Madison Sestak each won two races. Stromski took the 50 freestyle (27.12 seconds) before swimming the 100 butterfly in 1:08.43. Sestak was first in the 100 backstroke (1:10.35) after needing 1:01 flat to claim first place in the 100 freestyle. All this came after Sestak, Stromski, Colleen McCarthy and Julia Mondo teamed to take the 200 medley relay in 2:06.96. Kelly Cole beat the field in the 200 IM (2:35.02) before Emily Isbell picked up 177.15 points in diving. Kim Burdo won the 500 freestyle (6:19.13) as Cole, McCarthy, Sestak and Anne Esce won the 200 freestyle relay (1:52.65). In the 400 freestyle relay, McCarthy, Sestak, Ashley Zemotel and Jordan Bailer swam to a time of 4:15.70. Liverpool takes on Auburn Friday, two days after CNS meets Utica Proctor.
