Nothing gives the Marcellus cross country teams more satisfaction than knocking off Skaneateles when the two rivals have their annual OHSL Liberty division clash. And the Mustangs prevailed on both fronts Wednesday afternoon, the girls beating the Lakers 23-32 and also topping Solvay 15-47. Having spent years losing one-sided meets to the powerful Skaneateles girls, Marcellus exacted some revenge on its home course behind eighth-grader Rachel Garn, who won in 21 minutes, 59 seconds, well ahead of Skaneateles’ Madeline Adams (22:37) at the wire. Molly McGuane finished third, in 23:30, with Laura Quercia in fourth place (23:35). Maddie Ballman, in seventh (24:54), and Olivia Higgins, in eighth (25:12), clinched the victory as they were ahead of the fourth and fifth Skaneateles runners. Over in the boys meet, the Mustangs ran together as Mike Fallon (19:42) finished just ahead of Owen Dean, Mike Epp, Jesse Garn, Ryan Manahan, Mike Quercia and Tom Riccardi, all of whom were clocked in 19:45. Solvay beat Skaneateles 21-39 behind Matt Fedrizzi, who was second among individuals in 18:32 as the Lakers’ Calvin Davis prevailed in 18:17. Jeremiah Cregan was 10th in 19:54. Westhill’s cross country teams also hit its league schedule on Wednesday, both of them splitting with Phoenix and CBA — beating the Firebirds, but losing to the Brothers. On the boys end, Kevin Zych gave the Warriors a first-place finish in 16:51, well clear of CBA’s Tom Voorheis (17:30), but the Brothers took the next three spots before Joe Savastano hit the line in 18:42. Andre Remillard (19:43) and Mitchell Lamb (19:47) also hit the top 10. The girls meet saw Westhill’s Katie Powers finish fourth in 21:15, with Lissa DiPaola sixth (21:40) and Catherine Coon eighth in 22:33. CBA ninth-grader Katie Brislin won the race in 19:35, beating the field by more than a minute.
