Following a pair of close encounters, the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse cross country teams went to separate CNY Counties Leagues meets — and both prevailed with ease. The Warriors took on Henninger at Long Branch Park and won both meets over the Black Knights by 15-50 margins. Colin Savage, who had won his division at the Chittenango Invitational on Sept. 19 at Jamesville Beach, won the boys race in 16 minutes, 54 seconds, the only competitor to break the 17-minute mark. Nick Hull was second, in 17:08, while Alex Wilke got third in 17:34. Mike Ostuni (17:50) and Anthony Brais (17:59) rounded out the top five. In fact, Liverpool had every spot in the 10 of the boys race. Brandon Rudd was sixth in 18 minutes flat, ahead of Chris Clemons (18:20), Anthony Ostuni (18:20), Drew Henry (18:39) and Casey Guilfoil, who was 10th in 18:54. The Warriors matched that clean sweep in girls action, starting with Lesley Bowers and her winning time of 20:04, well clear of Chelsea Attaway (21:38) in second place. Rachel Putman earned third place in 22 minutes flat, as Trina Bills took fourth (22:31). Caroline Dieffendefer was fifth (22:34), exactly a minute ahead of Catherine Vann, with Sophie Breed seventh (23:42). Meghan Walsh (23:57), Haley DePan (24:08) and Brianna Inman (24:08) rounded out the top 10. As it turned out, CNS had a closer meet with Rome Free Academy at Oneida Shores, but still beat the Black Knights 19-43 (boys) and 15-49 (girls). An exciting boys duel saw the Northstars’ Chris Buchanan, in a time of 18:36, hold off RFA’s Joe Mastraccio by six seconds. Dan Fritz was third, in 16:48. The CNS floodgates followed, starting with Alex Bottorff in fourth place (17:15), Eric Hart fifth (17:17) and Rob Donadio sixth in 17:26. Ken Ryan claimed seventh place (17:37) as Anthony Lupia (17:57) and Neill Gill (18:01) also cracked the top 10. CNS had the top six girls finishers, all of them chasing Nicole Watterud and her top time of 20:12, more than half a minute ahead of Marissa Colburn (20:45) in second place. Dana Rinaldi (21:02), Mackenzie Cummings (21:04), Katie Laris (21:05) and Jamie Leone (21:08) all were in close proximity in the third through sixth spots. Christina Sakowski was eighth (21:41), as Hanna Hobbs took ninth (21:56) and Lori Holmes 10th in 22:09.
