In the aftermath of landing head coach Patti Vaughn her 400th career victory, the Morrisville-Eaton field hockey hoped that more wins would follow. At least the 401st win came in lopsided fashion, as the Warriors met Sherburne-Earlville and used a big second half to post a 5-0 win over the Marauders. M-E’s pressure was present throughout the early going, but it could not score until after the break. Once there, the Warriors took off, overcoming S-E goalie Colleen Carricio’s 14 saves and finding the net often. Rae Brown, with two goals, led a balanced attack where Leigha Morris, Kate Verne and Emily Corpin also converted. Verne added an assist, with Amanda Schokker and Shelby Widger also earning assists. From there, the Warriors visited Cooperstown on Wednesday and continued to roll, putting together a 4-1 victory over the Redskins that was particularly satisfying, given that Cooperstown ended M-E’s season in the Class D playoffs a season ago. A well-balanced M-E attack provided the proper payback, as Schokker, Widger, Abby Clark and Courtney Ashcraft each put in a goal, and Brown earned two assists. M-E took 18 shots to Cooperstown’s two, with Mekenzie Coleman accounting for the Redskins’ lone goal. Hamilton went up against Sauquoit Valley Monday and emerged with a 1-1 draw. Sara Whyatt scored, unassisted, in the first half, but Sauquoit’s Danielle Henck answered in the second half. Neither side would convert again. Emerald Knights goalie Megan Van Auken made 17 saves to keep her team even, while Sauquoit counterpart Jessica Jecko got 12 saves. Hamilton moved on to face Mohawk on Wednesday, and again ended in a tie, this one 2-2 against the Mohicans. Down 1-0 at halftime, the Emerald Knights rallied behind Jenna Whyatt, who got one goal and assisted on the other, by Jessica Welsh. Jenna Schell added an assist.
