Playing for the first time in 2009 in front of the home folks, the Jordan-Elbridge football team also began its run in the Class C West division Friday night against Tully – a team the Eagles beat a year ago. Needless to say, the Black Knights are a lot better now, as it showed by handling J-E 52-19 to improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Eagles dropped to 0-2. J-E did get a big play in the early going, as running back Preston Bishop broke loose for a 58-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Unfortunately, that came amid a flurry of 21 points that Tully put up before the period was done. And Mike Courtwright was responsible for all of them, the Tully running back scoring on runs of eight, two and 44 yards to help his side take charge. Though it cooled off a bit in the second quarter, Tully still built the margin to 27-7, waiting for the third period to end the drama. Courtwright moved his touchdown total to five with runs of 35 and 10 yards. In between, Tully’s Connor Barry returned a blocked punt for six more points, and Jalen Whitfield scored on an interception return of 19 yards in the fourth quarter. Through all this, the Eagles put together a pair of TD drives, as Clint Daniels scored on a four-yard run and Nick Berwind found the end zone on a six-yard run. J-E heads back to the road next Saturday for a game against the combined LaFayette/Fabius-Pompey squad, which starts at 1 p.m. at LaFayette. The Lancers are 0-2 following a 36-20 loss to Hannibal.
