Unbeaten in 2008, the Skaneateles girls tennis team is focused on making the same kind of full sweep through the OHSL Liberty division this fall. In a change from recent years, the Lakers will only play its league opponents only once, instead of twice, in a pared-down schedule that only includes nine matches. Thus, each contest gains greater significance — and Skaneateles, knowing this, was sharp in Wednesday’s opener, going to Westhill and beating the Warriors 6-1. Leading a singles sweep, Amitra Deol beat Ali Baron 6-2, 6-2. Hillary Fenner took out Bridget Sherlock 7-5, 6-2, while Elizabeth Lane put together a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Mallory Gorman. Moving to the doubles side, Katherine Hill and Megan Holleran took little time defeating Molly Hubert and Lauren Walters 6-0, 6-1. Ryan Merle teamed with Sidney Lawson to top Paula Sanz and Faith Abend 7-5, 6-0, while Kathryn Magee and Casey VanSlyke dominated in a 6-2, 6-1 win over Holly Tremiti and Bethany Dickerson. Dani Alderman and Katharina Kulik won the second set over Molly Gosson and Adrianna Carelip, but lost a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 decision.
