After not having any regular-season contact with each other, long-time powers Jamesville-DeWitt and Carthage will meet for the Section III Class B championship. The final, taking place Friday at 5:30 at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium, is a rematch of the 2008 title game at Coyne Field, where the Red Rams lost to the Comets 10-6. While J-D hasn’t met Carthage this spring, it was quite familiar with East Syracuse-Minoa, the team it had to beat inTuesday’s Class B semifinal at Central Square. As it had so many other times in 2009, the Rams took charge early and never let the Spartans get too close, breezing to an 18-10 victory. They had only played 12 days earlier, at J-D, and though the Rams had won 11-5, it had been inconsistent in that game, and ESM had played them on even terms after J-D had roared out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Here, the start was quite similar, as Eric DeJohn and Jake Bratek kept infiltrating the Spartans’ defense for goals and J-D led 7-1 when the first period ended. There would be no let-up this time, though. ESM got its attack moving in the second period, yet still saw the margin grow to 11-4, and J-D made sure the Spartans never got into the argument by outscoring them 5-2 in the third period. DeJohn, with seven goals and two assists, had a hand in exactly half of J-D’s scoring plays, and Bratek wasn’t far behind, adding four goals and three assists. Cam Stone, Peter Goss and Robby Wengert each scored twice, with Stone adding two assists. Steve Aziz got one goal and one assist as Mac Keehfus, Colin Short and Joe Shepard notched assists, too. On ESM’s side, Mike Cummings, Quadear Mike and Tom Rosaschi each scored twice, with Cummings getting three assists and Mike two assists. Andy Raymond and Garrett Smith each had one goal and one assist as James Chayka and Marc Sacco found the net, too. The Spartans closed out its season with a record of 11-8.
