Some things about the Section III girls golf championships of 2009 were similar to 2008 — specifically, East Syracuse-Minoa’a Brittany Siechen taking top individual honors. What was different, though, was that Christian Brothers Academy would win the Division I title, taking the crown from Fayetteville-Manlius. When the scores were added up Thursday at Rogues Roost’s West course, the Brothers had 351, nine shots better than the Hornets’ total of 360 as ESM (391) finished sixth. Over in Division II, Jamesville-DeWitt won the five-way race for team honors with 411, beating New Hartford (420) by that same nine-shot margin. Siechen started with a bogey and triple bogey, only to play the last 16 holes one under part and finish with a 74, two shots ahead of F-M’s Alex Seabury and Baldwinsville’s Lauren Petty. By repeating, Siechen again earned an automatic exemption to play in the July 31-Aug. 2 Alliance Bank Futures Golf Classic, moved this year from the Links at Erie Village to Drumlins Country Club’s East Course. Siechen, Seabury and CBA’s Mary Fletcher, who shot 77 to tie for fourth place, all earned places on the sectional team that will compete Saturday and Sunday at the state championship tournament at Foxfire. Fletcher led CBA’s winning side, which included Elisabeth Webber shooting 89, Sarah Kitts posting a 90 and Emilie Oakes adding a 93. F-M could not match that depth, even though Sara Simons posted an 89 and Maria Mintskovsky contributed a 93. ESM’s Danielle Cafferty shot a 94. On its way to the Division II title, J-D saw Yvonna Jones shoot an 89.
