Exactly 16 teams decided to participate in the Section III Class B softball playoffs, but it still got split into B-1 and B-2 segments. With its sparkling 21-2 record, Canastota has the no. 1 seed in B-2, and will face Lowville Thursday at 5 p.m. in the quarterfinal round. A win pits the Raiders against Ilion or General Brown on Saturday, with the B-2 final June 3 and the overall B title game June 6. Both of those games will be at the Gillette Road complex in Cicero. Canastota’s baseball team will get into action Tuesday as the no. 7 seed in Class B, which did not split despite a 16-team entry. The Raiders (11-11) host no. 10 seed Holland Patent, despite the Gaelic Knights having a better overall record of 15-7. Canastota looks to win and advance to Thursday’s semifinal against Sherburne-Earlville or Ilion.
