Once more, two bitter baseball rivals will meet – with a season on the line.
In Tuesday’s opening round of the Section III Class A playoffs, no. 6 seed Oneida (14-6) will host no. 11 seed Vernon Verona Sherrill (13-10). The winner get to meet another Tri-Valley League team, no. 3 seed New Hartford, in Thursday’s quarterfinals, on the way to a June 2 title game at Alliance Bank Stadium. While this goes on, Oneida’s softball team rests with the top seed in Class A and a 17-4 mark, awaiting a Saturday quarterfinal against Jamesville-DeWitt or Cortland. VVS also entered the softball playoffs and will take a no. 11 seed to the north country to face no. 6 seed Indian River for Thursday’s opening round. The winner gets Phoenix or Camden on Saturday. The finals are June 6 at the Gillette Road complex in Cicero.
