Maybe the West Genesee girls lacrosse team, following its much-hyped 10-7 win over Baldwinsville on May 19, started to believe that the easy part was over or that, at the very least, a major obstacle toward the ultimate prizes had been cleared. If so, then Cicero-North Syracuse brought them back to reality Friday at Bragman Stadium, making it real close before the Wildcats escaped with a 15-13 win over the Northstars. Through a torrid first-half pace, WG kept up well, steadily building a 10-6 lead. CNS refused to go away, though, and found more success against the Wildcats’ defense (13 goals) than any other team this season. Against this, WG (17-1) had to keep producing — and did so. Morgan Corso led with six goals, while Maria DiFato put up four goals and one assist. Karlyn Tupper scored twice as Bre Hudgins, Katie Hart and Mel Murphy each had one goal. CNS kept it close by having Tori Praino and Sarah Allen each earn four goals, with Ashley Waldron adding two goals and four assists. Ashley Caporizzo added two goals and one assist. As this was going on, Jordan-Elbridge, already with a lot of confidence after beating Cazenovia two nights earlier, kept it up, rallying to beat Skaneateles 8-7 to complete a regular-season sweep of the Lakers. When J-E fell behind 5-3 at halftime, it looked like Skaneateles would finally shake off the effects of a long series of close defeats this season — including the Eagles beating them 13-12 back on April 20. However, J-E’s defense would hold Skaneateles in check throughout the second half, giving up just two goals as Kelsey Richardson made her 13 saves count. Meanwhile, the Eagles inched in front behind a deep, well-balanced offense where only Hanne Bailey would score twice. Amanda Wheeler, Allie Donahue and Carrie Farrugia each had one goal and one assist, with Megan Peters, Chelsea Maitland and Emily Dillon also scoring. Mallory Snyder added an assist. Lindsay Angelillo led Skaneateles with three goals and one assist.
