Though they both are headed for the Section III Class C playoffs, the Skaneateles lacrosse teams go there in wildly varying moods. At 17-1, the boys Lakers rolled through its last playoff tune-up on Thursday night, toying with visiting Jordan-Elbridge and easily getting past the Eagles 14-3. The Skaneateles defense pitched a first-half shutout, rarely needing to guard its own end since the Lakers were winning most of the face-offs and steadily working its way to a 9-0 edge by the time they reached the break. Kevin Rice doubled J-E’s output all by himself, earning six goals, many of them fed by Kelly Donigan, who had four assists plus two goals, and Tom Schoener, who had five assists to go with his lone goal. Behind them, Kyle Baier, Patrick Emmer, Kyle Christine and Kevin Castle put up single goals. Josh Livingston had two of the Eagles’ three goals, and only Connor Smart’s 15 saves kept it from being more lopsided. A day later, the girls Lakers, unlucky all season, suffered yet another one-goal defeat at the expense of J-E, this one an 8-7 decision. They had first met April 20, and Skaneateles had squandered a big early lead in a 13-12 defeat. The rematch proved a variation on that first theme. Here, Skaneateles powered its way to a 7-4 halftime advantage, pushed there by Lindsay Angelillo, who had three goals and one assist. Maddy Morrissey would score twice, with Shelby McNeilly and Diane Vitkus also scoring. Katherine Pille joined McNeilly in the assist column. All this dried up in the second half, though, as J-E got seven different players to score. More importantly, it kept frustrating Skaneateles every time it attacked, as goalie Kelsey Richardson earned most of her 13 saves after the break. The girls Lakers fell to 9-9, but still could be tough for someone to eliminate in the Class C playoffs – if the close results turned around.
