With a late comeback, the Skaneateles baseball team again pushed past one of its biggest rivals last Monday afternoon, beating Marcellus 7-6. Wanting to end it early, Skaneateles scored five runs in the first inning as Zach Augustine and Jake Bird both earned RBIs in that rally. Marcellus came back with four runs in the bottom of the second, then scored twice in the fourth inning to go in front, 6-5, as Bird replaced Augustine on the mound. All told, Bird would throw five scoreless innings of relief, and it got rewarded when, down to its last out, Skaneateles tied it on Paul Hamilton’s clutch single. Owen Stokes-Cawley then broke the 6-6 tie with an RBI single in the top of the ninth. Defense played a big role in this game. Skaneateles went error-free as Marcellus put together seven errors. Both teams finished with 11 hits.
