By winning nearly every individual title, the Christian Brothers Academy girls track and field team controlled last Wednesday’s meet against Solvay and Hannibal. The Brothers topped the Bearcats 82-58 and the Warriors 86-53. Carol Giblin pulled off a sweep of all the distance events, taking the 800-meter run (2:33.8) and 1,500-meter run (5:53.0) while claiming the 3,000-meter run in 12:38.0. Giblin, Julia Quigley, Rachel Zajdel and Katie Brislin teamed to finish first in the 4×800 relay in 10:57.3. Melissa Zajdel added wins in the 400-meter dash (1:01.1) and 200-meter dash (27.3 seconds), also helping Nadine Dosa, Nicole SanGiacomo and Edie Douglas take the 4×100 relay in 51.8 seconds. Betty Etheredge won both the long jump (15 feet 6 inches) and triple jump (33 feet 4 inches). Cara Peters cleared 7 feet in the pole vault, also running to a win in the 400 hurdles in 1:14.8. CBA had rolled through Westhill and Jordan-Elbridge back on April 29, beating the Eagles 90-47 and the Warriors 94-47. Betty Etheredge won both the long jump 14 feet 5 inches) and triple jump (31 feet 9 inches), while Julia Quigley was first in the 400 hurdles (1:15.6) and cleared 4 feet 6 inches in the high jump. Nicole SanGiacomo sprinted to the 100-meter dash title in 12.7 seconds and also won the 100-meter high hurdles (16.9 seconds). She also helped Etheredge, Edie Douglas and Nadine Dosa take the 4×100 relay in 53.7 seconds. Katie Brislin, Michaela Gildemeyer, Carol Giblin and Rachel Zajdel ran the 4×800 relay in 10:06.3. Brislin won the 400-meter dash (1:04.9) as Zajdel needed 5:15.7 to prevail at 1,500 meters. Giblin ran 800 meters in 2:26 flat. Just after Nadine Dosa took the 200-meter dash (28.6 seconds), Giblin, Zajdel, Quigley and Ashley Letteney ran to first in the 4×400 relay in 4:27.9. Douglas cleared 8 feet in the pole vault.
