By the time it got to host Liverpool last Friday night at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, the Baldwinsville boys lacrosse team had to feel a bit whipped from the crowded schedule it had faced in the previous three weeks. Perhaps the accumulted action took a toll, as a close game with the Warriors broke open early in the fourth quarter, leading to a 14-8 defeat. They had met in April, at Liverpool, with B’ville losing 10-6, and the Bees were determined to make sure the rematch had a different ending. Amid whipping winds, goals by Tim Hayden and Alex Gailor helped the Bees earn a 2-2 early in the second quarter. Liverpool had most of the chances, but Pat Briggs’ nine first-half saves kept it close enough that B’ville only trailed 5-3 at the half. Still down, 6-4, late in the third quarter, the Bees made an explosive move, as Kyle Styer and Hayden landed goals nine seconds apart to tie it, 6-6. And when A.J. Wood converted with 25 seconds left in the period, B’ville had a 7-6 lead. Furious at this, Liverpool regrouped and, at the start of the fourth quarter, staged a blitz. Tyler Kamide’s goal 39 seconds into the period tied it, 7-7. Then, in a span of 28 seconds, Mitch Long and Matt DiMarco teamed up for three goals. By the time the Bees could regroup, Liverpool had amassed six goals in a span of 2:09, and it proved decisive. Long, Tyler Kamide and Derek Thomas each had three-goal hat tricks to negate Briggs’ 20 saves. Meanwhile, Hayden and Styer each scored twice for B’ville. Cookie Caloia and Nick Gaworecki also had goals, but Billy Ward and Evan States were both kept off the board. At 6-5, the Bees got some much-needed rest before going to Rome Free Academy Thursday and hosting Fayetteville-Manlius on Saturday.
