Going into May, the Skaneaetles girls lacrosse appeared ready to shake off all its early troubles and act like itself again. In fact, during that first action of the new month, the Lakers played some of its best defense of the season on Saturday and registered a 9-5 victory over Christian Brothers Academy. Skaneateles had to stay patient through a slow-paced first half as the Brothers inched out in front. The Lakers trailed, 3-2, at the break. However, as it made proper adjustments, Skaneateles started to break through against CBA’s resistance and scored on a regular basis in the second half. Lindsay Angelillo led that rally, finishing with four goals. Carly Davis, Maddy Morrissey and Diane Vitkus each had one goal and one assist, while Shelby McNeilly and Aly Davis earned single goals. On the defensive side, Barbara Gaffney, Claire Gadra, Amy Menapace and the rest of the Skaneateles back line flourished, protecting Heather Mullen, who only had to make seven saves. The Lakers’ last contest of May turned into a romp at Bishop Ludden last Thursday night as it roared past the Gaelic Knights 17-3. Staying in Ludden’s end most of the first half, Skaneateles worked its way to a 12-1 edge and kept on going, despite the wind and rain. Katherine Pille, with four goals, led a balanced attack where Maddy Morrissey and Lindsay Angelillo each earned three-goal hat tricks. Grace Kelly and Diane Vitkus each scored twice, with Aly Davis adding a goal and two assists. Shelby McNeilly and Carly Davis also converted, with Hannah McKerchie and Taylor Kerr earning assists. In non-league play on Monday, Skaneateles (7-5) hosted Fayetteville-Manlius before it seeks to avenge an April 7 home defeat to Cazenovia Wednesday at the Fenner Street complex.
