Even though it had roared to a 7-1 start and taken state no. 1-ranked Baldwinsville to overtime, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls lacrosse team still did not have its own place in the state rankings. That might prove more difficult to find after Wednesday’s visit to Fayetteville-Manlius, which saw the Northstars fall to the Hornets 13-8. F-M had struggled through the first half of its schedule, only going 3-3 against a tough slate. CNS appeared in perfect position to continue the Hornets’ misery. Instead, through a slow-paced first half, CNS got frustrated, falling behind 5-3. And while its offense found a little more success in the second half, the Hornets used its depth and balance to pull further away. Ashley Caporizzo had four goals, nearly carrying the Northstars’ attack as Tori Praino got held without a point. Ashley Waldron had two goals and one assist, while Rachel Geruso and Sarah Allen also scored. Alex Gale finished with 16 saves, but couldn’t keep everything out, as Morgan Axenfeld led the Hornets with four goals.
