A combination of strong pitching and an offensive explosion in the eighth inning helped give the Jamesville-DeWitt baseball team a 7-4 victory over Mexico last Tuesday afternoon. Looking to move up the OHSL Freedom division standings, the Red Rams matched runs with the Tigers in the third inning, then stayed patient, even though Mexico sneaked ahead 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the fifth. J-D tied it in the sixth inning, then waited until extra frames. Suddenly, the Rams broke through with five runs off Jamie Wililams and Sam Passer in the top of the eighth, striking a decisive blow as Mexico helped out with five errors. Amid this flurry, Jake Susman finished with two RBIs, while Mike Gianni, John Sheedy, Dylan Sacks and Andrew Hughes each drove in one run. Gianni also earned the win, pitching in relief of Justin Marzella. J-D would continue to play well back home on Wednesday afternoon, unleashing lots of early offense in a 14-6 victory over Phoenix. Hughes started on the mound and gave up some early runs as the Firebirds took a 3-1 lead. J-D turned it around, though, by getting six runs in the bottom of the second and three more runs an inning later to go ahead 10-3. Sheedy produced four RBIs, while Anthony Dunn doubled and drove in three runs. Susman earned two RBIs. Hughes lasted until the fifth inning and got the win, with Eric Schwartz closing out the game in relief. As this was going on, CBA saw its game at Chittenango rained out on Monday, but returned to action Wednesday and pounded past Fowler 18-3. Wasting little time, the Brothers got six runs in the first inning and kept on going, also getting seven runs in the top of the fifth in support of pitchers Rob Cuomo and Pat Wiese, with Cuomo earning the win. Sean McGraw hit the game’s only home run and finished with a team-best four RBIs. Brian Moore tripled and drove in three runs, while Anthony Cirillo and Riley Dixon each had two RBIs. Wiese and Pete Corasaniti had one RBI apiece.
