At least before spring break ended, the Jamesville-DeWitt baseball team displayed its ability to recover in a hurry. Though the Red Rams’ bats were fairly quiet in last Tuesday’s game against Fowler, it still translated into a 3-1 win over the Falcons. A first-inning run was nice, but J-D needed to score twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to get its eventual wining margin. Andrew Hughes and John Sheedy combined to hold Fowler to just two hits, with Hughes getting the win. Josh Paduano and Jack Susman each tripled, with Sheedy and Hughes earning one RBI apiece. Such an effort could not be repeated on Wednesday, against Cortland, as one bad inning cost the Red Rams in a 13-3 loss to the Purple Tigers. J-D seemed to be in fine shape, leading 3-1 after two innings, the key blow being Kenny Schunk’s two-run double in the bottom of the second. It all fell apart, though, in the top of the third, as Cortland torched J-D for 11 runs, knocking pitcher Mike Gianni from the game. Justin Marzella and Josh Paduano both would do solid work in relief, but the Rams could not recover. Cody Smith led the Purple Tigers with a triple and four RBIs. Instead of fretting about it, J-D resumed a winning form Friday in a non-league game against Vernon Verona Sherrill, beating the Red Devils 8-5. In the botttom of the fourth, with the game tied 2-2, the Red Rams knocked VVS pitcher Mitch Iseneker from the game with a five-run outburst that proved decisive. Sheedy and Susman each drove in two runs to lead the way as Gianni, Anthony Dunn and Mick Cariseo earned one RBI apiece. On the mound, Sheedy worked in relief as Dunn picked up the win.
