It took approximately 12 minutes of game time for the Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse team to shake off last Tuesday’s long bus ride to New Hartford. That done, the Red Rams found its groove and took charge by halftime, eventually working its way to a 10-6 victory over the Spartans. Always a dangerous foe in any location, New Hartford proved it again by racing out to a quick 3-0 lead before J-D could settle down. Yet it didn’t take too long for the Rams to find holes in the Spartans’ defense and run right through them, not stopping until it possessed a 5-4 halftime lead. New Hartford hung close, all the way until the fourth quarter, but J-D completely turned it around, blanking the Spartans over those last 12 minutes. Colin Short, Cam Stone and Jake Bratek each produced two goals on the Rams’ behalf. Jeff Sciera, Mac Keehfus and Eric DeJohn had matching totals of one goal and one assist, with Ed Kiesa adding a goal, too. Gordie Gehring worked in the net, recording eight saves. No comeback was required on Thursday afternoon as J-D led wire-to-wire against Cortland and ripped the Purple Tigers 15-5 behind a career effort from DeJohn. Already enjoying a 3-0 lead, the Red Rams got away in the second quarter, fueled by seven goals as DeJohn constantly found himself open — and finished off plays. By the time the day was done, DeJohn had eight goals, a new career mark that was three better than the entire Cortland roster. Stone had two goals and one assist, with Short and Bratek each getting a goal and two assists. Keehfus and Tim Edwards matched each other with one goal and one assist as Peter Goss also converted. On Saturday, the Red Rams made it three wins in five days, nearly getting a shutout in a 15-1 romp over Fulton. Doing much of the damage early, J-D scored six times in each of the first two periods, grabbed a 12-0 edge, then cleared its bench as only a fourth-quarter tally by the Red Raiders prevented a whitewash. Bratek, with four goals, and Short, with three goals and one assist, led the charge. DeJohn, Joe Shepard and Robby Wengert each got two goals, with DeJohn adding two assists. Keehfus produced a goal and three assists, and Stone also got three assists as Edwards scored, too. At home Tuesday night, J-D (4-2, 3-0 league) took on Whitesboro before making a Thursday-night trip to Chittenango.
