Four days before going to Ilion for the Section III Class B meet, the Raiders hosted Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, a meet where Canastota dominated the middle stages, only to give it all up in the end to fall the Red Devils by a score of 39-33. Tyler Sirota, at 135 pounds, put the Raiders on the board when he beat Aaron Pritchard with a six-minute technical fall. The real surge began when Jeremy Brodfuehrer, at 145 pounds, pinned Dustin Comings in 2:57. Right after, Fred Sherman (152 pounds) pinned Karl Frank 17 seconds into the third period and Zach Zupan (160 pounds) took 2:47 to finish off Josh Parkhurst. In what proved to be an important match at 171 pounds, Jake LaBarre fell just short in a 7-6 decision to Alex Mieczkowski. But the Raiders still went up 33-15 when John Carver (189 pounds) ripped Nick Mieczkowski 12-2 and Sam Stagnitti, at 215 pounds, took 3:13 to pin Kyle Reader. That would be Canastota’s last points, though. VVS claimed the next two matches by forfeit, then won the last two matches through pins to tie, then surpass the Raiders, Jake Popple faling to David Rathbun in the 130-pound finale.
