In a rare feat, the Bishop Grimes boys basketball team reached the century mark during last Friday’s visit to Cazenovia. Continuing its late-season surge, the Cobras’ trip to Buckley Gym turned into an offensive delight as the Cobras climbed to triple digits and sank the Lakers 100-52. Through a wild first half, Grimes did whatever it wanted against a porous Cazenovia defense, working its way to a 52-24 edge by the break. And the Cobras kept it up in the late going. Even with the game well out of hand, Grimes made sure it got 28 points in the final period to reach 100 . No less than nine players got at least six points. Mike Stone led with 19 points, but Antron Irby (15 points) was close behind, as Mike Sugamosto and Zach Vaught each got 12 points. Luke Tucci and Kucjok Ater gained nine points apiece. Josh Murray (eight points), Tavon Moore and Pete Lembo (six points each) also had fine showings. For Grimes (13-4, 8-3 league) to tie for the OHSL LIberty division regular-season title, it must not only beat Hannibal on Friday, but also survive a Wednesday visit from Skaneateles and a Saturday rematch with Cazenovia, all with the Section III Class B playoff announcement looming on Sunday afternoon.
