All of the area’s top high school boys swimmers are now poised to go to Nottingham for this week’s Section III championship meet. Before it went there, though, Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA took care of Weedsport last Thursday night, setting one big mark during a 99-80 victory over the Warriors to improve to 7-3. In the 100 breaststroke, the Red Rams’ Tyghe Speidel broke the Weedsport pool record with a time of 1:02.10. Speidel had already teamed with Scott Thieke, Eric Jorgensen and Zach Shaw to win the 200 medley relay (1:49.22) and helped Thieke, Ryan Daley and Matt Kopp win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.54. On his own, Scott Thieke took the 200 freestyle in 1:54.78. while brother Shawn Thieke earned 170.05 points on the diving board. Jorgensen won the 200 individual medley (2:07.49). Garrett Farchione (52.60 seconds) edged Weesdport’s Nathan Earl (53.08 seconds) in the 100 freestyle after Russ Farchione won the 100 butterfly in 59.77 seconds. A night earlier, points and individual titles proved elusive for Fayetteville-Manlius during a 92-65 loss to Auburn. Three times, the Hornets took individual events. Jack Robinson had two of them, following up a victory in the 200 individual medley (2:12.61) by needing 58.89 seconds to prevail in the 100 backstroke. Kevin Koh needed 56.40 seconds to prevail in the 100 butterfly. Robinson, HarryRube, Ryan Kelley and Teddy Rube combined to take the 400 freestyle relay in 4:06.82. The Maroons, who saw a 38-meet win streak broken by West Genesee on Jan. 29, rebounded by having stars Patrick O’Donovan and Lucas Zelehowsky each win twice. O’Donovan took the 200 freestyle (1:51.14) and 500 freestyle (5:03.29), while Zelehowsky claimed the 50 freestyle (23.24 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.82).
