In the lead-up to this Saturday’s Center State Conference championship meet, the Canastota wrestling team kept a winning touch. The Raiders had a strong showing last Tuesday against Mohawk, rolling to a 43-16 victory over the Mohicans. Canastota dropped three of the first five matches, getting on the board when Zach Zupan, at 160 pounds, pinned Eric Ulinski in 1:43. Two matches later, John Carver (215 pounds) earned a pin over Travis Herringshaw midway through the second period. The turnaround began with Joe Tiller’s 112-pound forfeit. Right after that, Brandon Durfee (119 pounds) nearly got a technical fall when he beat Mike Backus 14-0 and Jake Popple, at 125 pounds, pinned Mike Bellstedt 25 seconds into the third period. To start a closing rush, Tyler Sirota (135 pounds) pinned Jessie Bond with 13 seconds left in their match. At 140 pounds, Jamie Meade fought his way past Kyle LaBarge 6-4, and Jeremy Brodfuehrer (145 pounds) got a pin over Dustin Bond with 33 seconds left.
