Town of Camillus Supervisor Mary Ann Coogan on Tuesday said the town expected to receive the signed fire contract for 2009 from the village of Camillus and Camillus Fire Department by Friday. The annual contracts between the town and five departments for the first time included a mandate that each department must include the others on their call boxes. Coogan said the mandate is the result of ongoing conflicts between departments, and will be included in all of the town’s fire contracts from now on. In October, rumored feuds between Camillus Fire Department and Fairmount Volunteer Fire Department received public and media attention when FVFD did not respond to a house fire in the town of Camillus. It was revealed following the fire that CFD, the first responder to the fire, did not include FVFD as part of their mutual aid call box. Coogan said Friday the town had requested the signed contracts back by Monday; Monday afternoon Terri Davis said the town had not yet received the contracts. Though the town has little direct control over fire departments, Coogan hoped that the contracts would be accepted by the departments and the conflict could be settled. At the village of Camillus board meeting Tuesday night, CFD President Jesse Norcross told the board the contract would be signed by the department within the week, and that the additional mandate did not seem to pose a problem.
