Fresh off its big road win at Whitesboro, the Cazenovia ice hockey team had to repeat the feat against another Division II East playoff contender. Dealt another challenge Friday night at Kennedy Arena against Rome Free Academy, the Lakers looked even better, pummeling the Black Knights on both ends of the ice on the way to a 5-1 victory. Other than Dustin Frankley’s first-period goal, Cazenovia’s airtight defense allowed nothing, as goaltender J.R. Vecchiarelli turned away 25 of the 26 shots he faced on the night, giving the Lakers lots of time to find the offense it needed. And that came from many sources, as five different Cazenovia players scored.
Both Ben Lewis and Sam Lewis picked up two assists to go with their goals, while Joe Nardella, Carter Franz and Sean Dougherty took turns finding the net, too. Sean Cannizzaro added an assist. Having improved to 14-1-1, the Lakers got to rest for a week before playing Westmoreland this Friday at the Morrisville State IcePlex.
