Girls indoor track and field teams from Fayetteville-Manlius, CBA and Jamesville-DeWitt all had high finishes during last Wednesday night’s Bob Grieve Invitational at Manley Field House. In the points race, F-M had 28 for fifth place, CBA 25 for sixth place and J-D flying toward 22 points and a tie for seventh with Skaneateles. Cicero-North Syracuse won with 61.5 points. For the Hornets, distance running again provided a lifeline as cross country hero Hannah Luber shot to a winning time of 10:42.23 in the 3,000-meter run, well clear of J-D’s Eileen Cody, who was second in 11:04.30. Luber’s teammate, Courtney Chapman, tore to victory in the 1,000-meter run, beating out Liverpool’s Trina Bills, 3:06.50 to 3:07.11. Jessica Marini was fifth in the 600-meter run (1:48.17) and teamed with Meg Helmer, Heather Martin and Natalie Alibrandi for fourth in the 4×400 relay in 4:20.46. Also for the Hornets, Kelly Perry had a fifth-place long jump of 15 feet 3 1/2 inches. CBA would win the only relay, the 4×400, as Taylor Gait, Katie Brislin, Nadine Dosa and Melissa Zajdel posted a time of 4:14.42, beating CNS by 3.52 seconds. Melissa Zajdel, on her own, was second in the 300-meter dash in 42.14 seconds, while Rachel Zajdel got third place in the 600-meter run in 1:45.36. Nicole SanGiacomo was sixth in the 55-meter dash in 7.96 seconds. Marae Tearney gave J-D its big moment in the 55-meter dash, edging Pulaski’s Macee Bonofski, 7.78 seconds to 7.82. Marissa Colavecchio got to fourth place in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet 6 inches. In a more scattered boys meet, J-D had the best local finish, in ninth with 13 points. F-M had 11 points and ESM got four points. Most of the Hornets’ points came from state cross country champion Alex Hatz showing up in the 3,200-meter run and posting a time of 9:22.04, beating Marcellus star Chris Stogsdill (also a state cross country champ) by more than 25 seconds. David Salbert gave the Red Rams a second-place long jump of 20 feet 1 inch, six inches behind Auburn’s Matt Wild, while ESM’s Lenny Kerznowski finished fourth with 19 feet 8 1/2 inches. As for Bumkuth Jiak, he took fourth in the 1,000-meter run in 2:38.95, with F-M’s Brendan Farrell sixth. J-D’s Michael Paul was sixth in the shot put with 41 feet 2 inches.
