Getting right back in form after its Wednesday-night defeat to New Hartford, the Cazenovia ice hockey team blitzed through two weekend foes at the Morrisville State IcePlex by a combined 18-1 margin. First, the Lakers pummeled Utica Proctor 12-1 on Friday night. The winless Raiders had to endure Cazenovia scoring 11 times in the first two periods. Carter Franz, with a three-goal hat trick plus one assist, and Joe Nardella, with two goals and two assists, led a balanced attack where Ben Lewis and Sam Lewis each had one goal and three assists. Brian Gara and Tom Colligan put up two goals apiece, with Zach Bonavita picking up one goal and two assists. Sean Dougherty, Seth Goldacker and Lucas Catania each got credit for two assists. A day later, the Lakers met Sweet Home, from the Buffalo suburbs, who had beaten Skaneateles 3-1 in the first part of its two-day Section III swing. Again, the Lakers dominated, beating the Panthers 6-0 by playing airtight defense all game in front of Vecciarelli, who only had to make 17 saves. Cazenovia took a 3-0 lead through the two periods, then doubled the margin with Dougherty at the helm, as he finished with a goal and three assists. Gara scored twice, with Franz, Nardella and Ben Lewis also scoring. Sean Cannizzaro, back in the lineup, had two assists. With a record of 12-1-1, the Lakers (who might see its state no. 1 Division II ranking go to New Hartford after that defeat) will get two more big road tests this week when it visits Whitesboro on Tuesday and Rome Free Academy on Friday night.
