Elbridge Town Councilor Rita Dygert said Wednesday night that the new bus purchased recently by the town to be used for the senior outreach program should be delivered and ready to roll in February. The bus, which will include 10 stationary seats and room for two wheelchairs, was made possible through a $40,000 grant awarded the town from Sen. John DeFrancisco, Dygert said. The bus will provide Jordan-Elbridge area seniors with much-needed transportation, which Dygert said would probably run routine schedules to help transport elderly community residents to doctor’s appointments and other errands. The bus schedule is currently being worked on, she said. Though elderly Elbridge residents were eligible for Centro’s Call a Bus program, the vehicles travel only as far as Camillus, Dygert said. Users were responsible for facilitating their own transportation to Camillus to be picked up by the Centro vehicle. If our seniors could find a ride to Camillus to catch a Call a Bus, they wouldn’t need to use the Call a Bus program, Dygert said she had pointed out in her letter to DeFranciso for the grant money.
