Cathy Van Order of Marcellus was asked to fill out a questionnaire for Printing Impressions magazine.
She figured the magazine would take her responses along with the responses of other printing professionals and write a story about what print buyers want. What she didn't expect was the publication to get so many good responses that they would write a feature article about several people in the printing profession.
Van Order, production manager at the Pinckney Hugo Group in Syracuse, will be the first person to be featured in a six-issue series highlighting "What Print Buyers Want" in Printing Impressions. The article will appear in the October issue.
As a member of Print Communications Professionals International Inc., an organization for people who buy or specify in the print industry, Van Order was contacted to fill out the questionnaire.
"They solicited print buyers in that group to respond to a questionnaire," Van Order said, adding that she responded to the questions and the corresponded with the people from Printing Impressions for quite a while.
Approximately two weeks ago, the publications responded to Van Order congratulating her and notifying her that she would be featured in the upcoming issue.
"I was really kind of shocked that they were going to run this over six months," she said. "I'm kind of enthusiastic about it because I think this is a great topic."
Aaron Hugo, a partner at Pinckney Hugo Group, said he thinks it is "fantastic" that Van Order will be featured in the publication, which goes out to professionals in the printing industry.
"It's a testament to the knowledge that she has," Hugo said.
He said that Van Order regularly keeps up with what is going on in the printing industry and brings in vendors for a brown bag lunch once a month to discuss what they are looking for in a printer and changes in the industry.
