Gov. David A. Paterson Monday announced the appointment of Jeffrey A. Aumell to serve as District Attorney for Madison County. This appointment is made pursuant to County Law Section 400, which provides the Governor with exclusive authority to appoint an interim District Attorney whenever a
vacancy is created other than by expiration of a term. This vacancy was created when former Madison County District Attorney Donald Cerio resigned in May 2008 upon appointment by Governor Paterson and confirmation by the New York State Senate to serve as a Judge on the New York State Court of
Aumell has served as Acting District Attorney for Madison County since May 2008. Prior to being named Acting District Attorney, Mr. Aumell served as Second Assistant District Attorney since July 2002 and currently sits on the Madison County Multidisciplinary Child Abuse Task Force. He previously
worked as the Second Assistant County Attorney for the Madison County Attorney?s Office. Mr. Aumell received his Juris Doctorate from Syracuse
University College of Law, and holds a B.A. in Sociology from Syracuse University.
Aumell's term will run until January 1. The vacancy will be
filled for a full term of office upon the general election in November.
