Syracuse patriots travel 40 hours to GOP convention:
"Country comes first; no one is bigger than this country," said Joe Tangredi of his candidate for President of the United States, John McCain.
Syracuse Republican committee members, Joe Tangredi and Jim DiBlasi are essentially in charge of McCain's campaign here in Central New York. Tangredi is the Regional Director for Veterans for McCain, while former Onondaga County Legislator; Jim DiBlasi is the Campaign coordinator for McCain in CNY.
"This election is more important to me than any other," Tangredi said, "two words, 'John McCain.'"
"McCain is ready day one to be Commander and Chief," DiBlasi said, "He is the most prepared since Dwight Eisenhower."
These two gentlemen served in the Marine Corp during times of war, Tangredi in Vietnam and DiBlasi in Desert Storm.
"Politics is very much like going to war," DiBlasi said, "only with a suit on."
The two actually drove out to the GOP convention with Joe Burns from Sen. John DeFrancisco's office, who is working with Lawyers for McCain and Gary Berntsen, a former CIA operative, who is the New York State Chairman for Veterans for McCain. Berntsen has co-authored two books with Ralph Pezzullo including "Jawbreaker: The Attack on Bin Laden and Al Qaeda : a Personal Account by the CIA's Key Field Commander" and their recent work of fiction "The Walk In."
Tangredi said the 40-hour drive turned out to be a great learning experience. In essence, they could put their heads together about organizational aspects of the campaign; and also Berntsen was able to brief them on a policy book he has written that he hopes the next administration will use.
Once in Minnesota they worked the convention from 6:30 a.m. until well after midnight each of the four days.
"It's a working convention," Tangredi said.
