Deputies investigate farm accident

Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a farming accident that has injured an Auburn teen.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., Sheriff's Deputies were called to the Cargile Farm, located at 3905 Gully Road in the town of Skaneateles, to investigate a farming accident. Deputies report that John Rice, 16, of Auburn was injured after loosing control of a farm tractor he was operating.

Rice was loading stone with the tractor and was driving up an incline when the tractor began rolling backwards.

Rice was unable to control the tractor, which overturned and crashed down the hill. Rice was ejected from the tractor and sustained several injuries.

Rescue and EMS personnel responded to the scene and the New York State Police helicopter was called to airlift Rice to University Hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Sheriff's deputies will continue investigating the accident in attempt to determine the exact cause.
