On Sunday Oct. 19 people with a purpose will gather at the Skaneateles Community Center to raise money and awareness of the hunger issue that affects so many around the world.
Crop Walk 2008 will get a walking, swimming or skating start with registration at 12:15 p.m. The walk begins at 1 p.m.
"It's to raise money for hunger all over the world and 25 percent of the money raised comes back to the Skaneateles food pantry," said Kitty Spinelli.
There are three routes set up for walkers, including a one-mile fun walk that consists of making two laps around Austin Park. The second route is a three-mile sidewalk walk that begins with a half lap around Austin Park.
The third route is longer and more challenging as there are parts of the path without sidewalks. Walkers are advised to use caution while walking, running and crossing streets.
There's also a one-mile swim or skate planned.
To raise money, those involved have been getting sponsors, and while the money is being raised for a good cause, there are also rewards to be given to those doing the raising.
For the person who raises the most money, they will receive a pizza party for 10 people at Joe's Pasta Garage -- a good incentive for anyone who enjoys a nice pie.
Sponsor envelopes are available in all school offices, churches and at the Skaneateles Community Center. Participants can also raise money online at cropwalkonline.org.
