While the legislature failed to make cuts this past week, Drahos suggests that we need to start the belt-tightening process now. He added that any saving this year is going to reduce the number and severity of cuts in next year's budget. With this in mind, Drahos is already preparing a number of changes that can be made for the remainder of this year to help with the difficult times ahead. At next week's board meeting, Drahos will ask the board to look at a number of areas including conferences, field trips, student activities, supplies, substitutes, and printing as well as staffing. He added that changes need to be made in the way the district does business if they are to weather the financial tsunami that is threatening all of us.
