The Manlius Village Board passed a motion for the Fire Department Facilities Committee to continue its needs-assessment at its Oct. 28 meeting.
The committee, comprised of board members, members of the fire department and consultants from Hueber-Breuer among others, recommended the village purchase the Chase Bank property to combine with Station 1.
While the concept's downside would be the purchase cost of the bank, the committee said it believed expansion would be the best option due to additional public parking and the idea of having a new, centrally located landmark. Provisions would be made for another fire bay as well.
Other options were discussed but not recommended by the committee due to reasons such as safety, money and practicality. The committee is expected to give the board an outlined needs-assessment schedule and present the findings of the rest of the study in three months.
The board will next meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 12 at the Manlius Village Centre.
