AD team logging the miles
By Willie Kiernan
After winning the state championship for the fourth successive year the Cazenovia High School Academic Decathlon journeyed to Garden Grove in California for the National competition. Last year, the team traveled to Hawaii, San Antonio the year before and Chicago the year before that.
"The competition is becoming more competitive each year," said Coach Sue McKillop. "Some teams claimed that they studied seven hours each day and included the USAD curriculum in their school day."
New York placed 29th overall, eighth place in Division III (small schools).
Regan Esposito was the only member of the team to receive a medal. She got a Bronze Medal in the Interview segment of the competition.
Fritz Koennecke was the highest scorer the Cazenovia team.
Danny deClerq was fifth place overall for Language and Literature. Koennecke took seventh place overall in Art and ninth place in Language and Literature. Koennecke and Terence Hartnett test scores qualified them to receive subscriptions to Scientific American.
"This year's winners were California followed closely by Wisconsin and Texas," McKillop said.
