Oneida teen killed in Friday night crash

A 16-year-old Oneida resident was killed and two of his friends injured in a collision on Sayles Street in the city Friday night.

The crash occurred about 10 p.m. Residents as far away as Stoneleigh Street reported hearing the collision.

Police say Ryan T. Aldasch, 16, of 514 Broad St., Oneida, was a passenger in a 2002 Ford Taurus four-door sedan operated by 18-year-old Michael E. Krowicki II. Police say Krowicki was northbound on Sayles Street at a high rate of speed when the vehicle's tires left the roadway.

When the vehicle landed, police say it bottomed out, causing Krowicki to lose control of the vehicle. The car left the roadway and collided with a tree on the eastern side of the street, causing heavy damage to the vehicle.

Aldasch was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he died shortly thereafter.

Backseat passenger Robert C. Eckhard, 16, of Prospect Street, Vernon, was transported to Oneida Healthcare Center, where police say he was treated for minor injuries.

State police accident reconstruction team members are assisting in the investigation.

The investigation continues, and charges are pending.
