Come June, Centro will tack on DeWitt Town Hall as one of its regular -- albeit temporary -- bus stops.
The experimental service route will run between Shoppingtown Mall and the Town Hall during daytime hours Monday through Friday for an undetermined time period.
"We're going to try it," said Vicki Baker, DeWitt town councilor who also chairs the seniors committee responsible for this action. "Hopefully people will use it, especially with the rising gas prices."
DeWitt Town Hall is the hub not only for town matters, but also for programs and events sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department. Having a direct bus line to the hall could help attendance, Baker said.
Additionally, a visit to nearby Ryder Park or a walk along the canal would be just a hop, skip and a jump away.
If people respond to the new service, there's a good chance Centro will give it ink -- at no cost to the town.
"We're going to see, hopefully, if this will work," Baker said. "If we can get more people to enjoy what the town has to offer, then good for everybody."
