B'ville: Feedback wanted on Downer Street

Officials are looking for residents' opinions concerning the future development of Downer Street.

"[The Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council] wants input on what the community thinks improvements need to be along the Downer Street corridor," Van Buren Supervisor Claude Sykes said. "They are going to address such things as accessibility, mobility and safety and a sense of place."

A public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday April 2 to discuss issues and needs related to the Downer Street corridor in the town of Van Buren and the village of Baldwinsville. The meeting will be held at the Van Buren Elementary School at 14 Ford St. in Baldwinsville.

The meeting is the first of several for the Downer Street Corridor Study, a planning effort being completed by the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council on behalf of the town of Van Buren. The purpose of the study is to examine existing and future conditions on the Downer Street corridor, identify issues and concerns, and develop transportation and land use recommendations that enhance both the road and its surroundings. This public meeting will include both a presentation on existing and future conditions and an opportunity for the public to express concerns, issues and ideas.

For additional information about the project or the public meeting, or to ensure accommodation for special needs, please contact the SMTC at 422-5716.
