Solvay board, residents prep to 'take back village'

According to the New York State criminal justice department registry, ten registered level 2 and 3 sex offenders currently reside in Solvay (zip code 13209) - twice as many offenders listed as living in the surrounding areas of Geddes, Camillus and Jordan.

The codes committee will meet again in July to establish fees and fines. Marinelli said the committee is also developing mailing packets of home improvement grant information and applications for residents.

The Solvay law was passed just weeks after a similar action taken in the village of East Syracuse, now under fire for being unconstitutional. The East Syracuse 'disruptive conduct' law would make landlords legally responsible for the actions of their tenants.

Marinelli told the audience the codes committee and village board is closely watching what happens in East Syracuse, and plans to follow suit as soon as possible.
