"(My friends) think it's a really good idea and they're going to walk and bring their families," Adriana said.
Interestingly, they have seen a domino effect in their efforts.
"We are finding people are passing the information on," Linda said explaining children will give flyers to their parents, parents will put the flyers up on bulletin boards at work and teachers will pass the information on to other school staff.
The two initially sought corporate sponsorships to donate water bottles and T-shirts for participants. With little success, Adriana decided they didn't need a lot of fancy stuff because it was just a walk. So, the Speach family is supplying water bottles and they are making bracelets rather than getting T-shirts for the walkers.
With more than 10 people sponsoring her, Adriana is looking forward to participating in the walk.
"I'm very proud of her," Linda said.
The walk will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday June 29 at the Lake Loop Trail at Beaver Lake Nature Center (East Mud Lake Road off of Route 370 in Baldwinsville). Registration is $5 (or more) per walker. To register for the walk or donate money to sponsor a walker, call Adriana or Linda at 635-9260 by June 24 with your name, phone number and number of people walking. While they prefer participants to pre-register so they know what to bring regarding supplies, they welcome people to register the day of the event also.
