Manlius: Catch rays at Body and Sol

Relax! That's what Kay Marini wants her customers to do when they walk through the doors at Body and Sol, a tanning studio located in the heart of Manlius. Marini purchased the business in March, formerly known as Beachfront Tanning Saloon, and since then, has done everything but relax to get things in gear for her guests.

"Our first initiative was to contact the manufacturer of our equipment and establish a systematic tanning process," said John Marini, Kay's husband who has taken an active role in getting started. "We purchased state of the art tanning bulbs that provided us with four levels of tanning and the fifth being the Mystic sunless tan."

So what's the system? First, it allows for tanners to build a base tan. From there, they can achieve the "I just went to the beach tan," try out the golden tan beds with photo anti-aging bulbs, or move to the bronzing beds if desired (a standup bronzing bed is also available for customers who prefer that choice).

"Our system provides for those in a hurry or those who want to relax," John said, adding that the beds they have offer tanning options anywhere from five to 20 minutes. "We have beds that provide a deep dark tan in less than 12 minutes."

The Mystic sunless tan is popular among brides, prom and ball goers, very fair-skinned people and those that want to avoid the sun. The process involves no dyes and uses a bronzer that's aloe vera-based, Kay said.

"It's very safe," she said, and has a tape she shows new customers prior to entering the process.

Customer service

"People need to feel comfortable purchasing whatever product it is," Kay said, which is why she and her employees make sure their customers are well informed before buying. "Not every bed is conducive to every skin type either. If you buy a Mega bed package, that's a lot of money, but it may not be the best bet for your skin type."
